The Montana World Trade Center (MWTC), a program of the University of Montana, is in need of a VISTA member to increase the visibility of Montana and underserved rural or Tribal populations. The Sponsor and VISTA member will collaborate with Montana’s economic development organizations (EDO) and to learn and share relevant information about the business climate in resource-stricken regions. MWTC supports community learning, acts as a facilitator for appropriate referrals, and offers educational workshops that are helpful for economic development statewide. The VISTA will play a key role in providing event support, capacity building with EDOs on an email marketing campaign, and conduct research relating to development and resource mapping of existing economic systems of support for rural and Tribal areas. The proposed project will serve the entire state of Montana. Montana’s enormous geography coupled with low population create unique challenges for raising capital or large-scale projects that could be profoundly beneficial to communities across the state, including rural and Tribal communities. The VISTA member will organize economically focused objectives of the resource map and play a key role in connecting project stakeholders.
Please contact us at info@mwtc.org about this opportunity.
Member Duties
The VISTA will develop an equitable communications plan to connect with Indigenous-led organizations participating with the project and are a part of the resource map. The VISTA will work alongside MWTC staff to plan and attend events with key stakeholders to include as part of the resource map, increasing visibility of rural and Tribal communities. The VISTA will gather information for the database, determine what resources need to be updated or added, and develop a tracking system to ensure an accurate count of organizations who receive services. Identifying underrepresented rural and Tribal communities in Montana to better understand certain areas of the state will be crucial. The VISTA will research capacity building opportunities through existing partnerships and by cultivating new ones. The VISTA will ensure sustainability by developing a strategy that upholds the research and implementation of the project and display how it can be sustainable after their finished service.
